I don't get this whole idea called Vexels. It doesn't mean I don't appreciate vexel artists or their works ( which are usually quite enjoyable unless they are a traced photos as seen also in vector gallery). I mean, to me they simply are an overkill. On the hand they were probably invented by people to lazy to learn how to properly use vectors but on the other hand from my small experience creating a very complicated vexel art takes much more time than doing the same stuff using apps like Illustrator. I'm talking here about hundreds of little curves which have to be precisely "faked" using raster tools instead of say selecting 4 control point using vector pen and adjusting the curvature. So maybe the whole point is about polishing your manual skills in handling a tablet pen? Mysteries, mysteries...
I know you can say it's just for fun but some people have galleries filled with tens of this vexel art and are too lazy or comfortable to learn something new. And then suddenly comes this moment when such person is very popular and she is spotted by a big ad company who really loves her style. So they ask her to create a vector art for them for big cash and what? Well, she says her works are not vectors but something strange called vexels but she can learn how to create beautiful vectors if they give her a week or two. Or, she proposes, maybe they can take her raster work and convert it in-house thus doubling the delivery time and amount of money. The company never replies and selects somebody better from the vector gallery. I heard this story from my friend here at dA. You know how he summarized it? Epic fail.
Being a true artist who doesn't care about anything is one thing but being a profitable graphic artist working for the industry is a way different thing. Love you all.
